A question about Influence

Is Influence type-specific, or is it lumped all together? The rule book is kind of unclear.

In other words, if I get exposed to 5 points of Arcanic Influence and then 10 points of Chaos Influence, are they tracked seperately or 15 Influnce?

There is the line: "The most common types of Influence a Rhiven may encounter are either Elemental (earth, air, water, fire, wood, metal), Chaotic or Arcanic." But then it doesn't mention the different types again.

Thanks.

You only have one pool of influence. So you'd have 15.

If you suffer enough influence at the event to acquire a Corruption, the type of the corruption would be based on the type of influence you got the most of. So, in your example, you would end up with a Chaos corruption and not an Arcanic corruption.

I may be unclear on this but it also seems different types of influence are harder to remove and or give you more influence or less depending on the type when a dynamism deals with it.

As far as the skills in Mana Chirurgeon are concerned, you treat influence or corruption the same regardless of type.

It's harder to resist Chaos effects than elemental ones, but influence isn't an effect. I think Bolster Aura will work just as well against chaos influence tokens than against other types. It has to for logistical reasons, since the person receiving the tokens will often not know which color of influence token represents chaos influence.

But that's a player interpretation based on how mana chirurgeon works, so an official clarification wouldn't hurt.

This is a great topic for discussion; I was also under the assumption that influence pools were tracked separately.

Jonathan, your interpretation is correct. Any ability which mitigates the amount of Influence Tokens accrued will work the same regardless of the type of the token. influence Accrual and effects are not the same thing.

You walk into a magma chamber: there's a tag that says "take five influence tokes when you step in the room" and "environmental effect, you become ruptured." and then you turn a corner and a lava monster throws a packet and calls "fire pierce."

You can mitigate the influence accrual with an influence defense ability. You can resist the rupture with any ability that specifically works against environmental effects, and you can resist the pierce with any ability that would stop a pierce, a fire effect, or a spell.

I didn't end up seeing any of the influence-gaining tags -- will those have Resist As sections? If so that seems like where I'd expect to learn whether, say, my Resist Chaos was useable there.

Tags will be unified with keywords or resist as's where appropriate.
